HISTORY OF THE IMPERIAL NAVY

The Imperial Navy, also known as the Imperial Fleet, or Imperial Space Service, was the naval branch of the Imperial Military of the Galactic Empire. At its peak, it fielded millions of warships and fighters, maintaining Imperial control and dominance throughout the galaxy.

The Imperial Navy was formed from the Republic Navy of the Old Republic in 19 BBY during Palpatine's Imperialization campaign during the rise of the Empire. A reorganized command structure, consisting of twelve Grand Admirals, oversaw the rapid expansion of the fleet that had begun during the Clone Wars. Growing discontent with the Empire eventually coalesced into the Alliance to Restore the Republic, which began a military campaign against Imperial forces that eventually evolved into the Galactic Civil War. After the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, the Empire began to devolve into warlordism and infighting, splintering the Imperial Navy amongst numerous Imperial factions. It would not again become a cohesive unit until the establishment of the Imperial Remnant under Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon, becoming a veritable fighting force once again under his command during the Yuuzhan Vong War.

By 28 ABY Grand Moff Orzon, a former member of Pellaeon’s Council of Moffs, formed the Imperial Directorate and took the strongest parts of the Remnant’s Navy and re-formed the Imperial Navy. After a large scale battle with the Galactic Alliance, the Directorate recognized the need to start drafting Imperial Citizens into its military. Many efforts were made to recruit citizens without it being forced. After recovering from the attack by the GA, the Directorate moved to reorganize its military administration. After noticing the amount of resources the ID had to create ships and that a single sector fleet would not be adequate enough to protect both of the Directorate’s sectors in the event of another attack, the Imperial Navy restructured itself forming two Expeditionary Fleets and one Emergency Response Task Force. The Fleet is now under the direct control of the Executor of the Imperial Directorate, and is commanded by the Chief of Fleet Operations. The pride of the Imperial Navy continues to patrol and defend the Imperial way of life, and it's ongoing mission to restore order and peace to the galaxy.
